Last week the Vizsla National Specialty was held in Temecula, California. Thursday night was All Star Review.

All Star Review is a celebration of Champion dogs who have also earned either a Field Championship, Master Hunter title or in some rare cases all three.

I’m proud of our club. Of the 25 entries, the VCNC had 14 of the entries.

Judging for ASR-

There are 3 judges (kept secret until the night of the event) who judge the dogs on

General Appearance (max 25 pts)

Overall look - well balanced that immediately says Vizsla, head lean and muscular, moderately wide, muzzle square and deep, can easily carry game bird
Whiskers for protection, eyelids such that neither dust nor seeds will effect ability to function in the field

Structure and Conditioning (max 45 points)

Look distinguished, medium sized, robust yet lightly built hard working hunting dog
Weight, brawn and sinewy condition that indicates capable to function in the field
Power and condition to easily spend hours working int the field
Muscle tone strong, hard evenly balanced

Movement/Gait (max 30 points)

Light-footed, smooth and graceful, efficient gait
Gait to demonstrate correct reach and drive
Single track

This Years recipient of the the Judy Jackson Award for Volunteer activities was Patsy Pope.

Hello Vizsla Aficionados,

We want to invite all Vizsla owners who have dogs they either hunt or who they have started to complete with to enter the Hunter's Gun Dog Stake at our walking field trial on

Sunday April 6th.

This is a stake that allows you to showcase your buddy in an unofficial event. The winner of the stake will have their name and date added to the traveling trophy. Dogs placing from second to fourth will receive a rosette. The rules for this stake are pretty simple.

The two judges will rank the 1st-4th place dogs based on who they would like to
hunt over.
The dog entered must have been shot over so they are accustomed to the shotgun.
The dog must find a bird(s) and point the bird. It would be best if the dog stays in place until the shot but that is not a requirement
The dog should be able to do a reasonable retrieve. It doesn't have to be brought back to hand but should be close enough to show the game wouldn't be lost in an actual hunt.

We do ask that dogs that have recently (within the last year) eared either a Field Championship or Master Hunter whether still competing or NOT refrain from entering s stake. This is a stake designed to allow others to enjoy competing with their treasured pals.

Summary

Increased Participation in Events : Most events saw a rise in entries, with notable gains in Coursing Ability Test (37%), Scent Work (30%), Fast CAT (19%), and Rally (15%). Championship points for Group 2-3-4 placements, introduced in January 2023, helped low-entry breeds earn more points and decrease absentee rates.
Strategic Planning and New Policies : The AKC is encouraging all clubs to create Strategic Plans to address declining membership and entries. A new policy requires judges and other officials to complete Stewards of Children® training every three years. A new CDC rule effective August 2024 mandates that all imported dogs be at least six months old to prevent disease spread.
Health and Education Initiatives : Leptospirosis is now a core vaccine recommended annually. Several educational webinars are scheduled, including topics on agility dogs and canine reproduction. The Canine Health meeting highlighted the increased presence of leptospirosis in metropolitan areas and its vaccination recommendations.

Thank you to everyone who attended the VCNC Fun Field Day on April 20th! We had a great turn out with repeat Vizslas and owners to lots newbie owners and Vizslas experiencing their first time in the field on birds. Our newly added AKC CGC and Trick Dog testing as well as our group AKC Fit walk were also highly attended. Thank you all our Club member volunteers, this fun event wouldn’t be possible without you.
